Route from Alicante Airport to Toscamar, Jávea.

Hiring a car is the best option for reaching Toscamar. There is no efficient public transport. Taking a taxi will probably cost more than a week's car hire! The journey is approx 100km - 60mls and takes about an hour and a half.

Take the middle lane out of the airport signposted to Valencia.  This will take you over the main road and down a slipway onto the road.  Keep following the signs to Valencia. You filter off to the right for Valencia. Be careful not to take the road going to Madrid.    Ignore signs to Alicante (if they are different from Valencia). You do not need to go into Alicante.   You will soon be on the motorway which is a toll road, but you get a free run round Alicante!  After going through a tunnel you soon come to the toll booths.  Take a ticket and keep it safe.  You'll need it to get off again! You go through some quite spectacular mountain scenery.  The road runs along the coast although somewhat inland.   The sea can be seen on the right from time to time.  You will pass by Villajoyosa, Benidorm, Altea, Calpe.  The roadsigns give warning of exits and the towns served and the distance still to go.  You need to leave at the exit signed to Benissa and Teulada (No. 63).  The one signposted to Jávea is the following one but do NOT go that far. If you do you have to double back as we are at the southern end of the area.  When you come off the motorway you have to pay the toll fee either in cash or by credit card (Tarjeta).

Leave by the road signed to Valencia (N332) towards Teulada (not Benissa).  Along this road you pass an industrial estate on the left, also a garden centre.  Take a turning to the right (first exit from roundabout) towards Teulada.  Pass another industrial development with a petrol station on your right, another roundabout, and go under the railway bridge. There are two more new roundabouts, you keep going ahead till you come to the dual carriageway which is the Teulada by-pass.  This is lined with shops - beware of traffic lights and pedestrian crossings!  At the end of this road is another roundabout.  Take the second exit (straight ahead).  This is a winding road through vineyards with a spectacular view over Moraira.  The next village you come to is Benitachell (Benitatxel).  The main road turns to the right which is signposted to Jávea (Xabia) and go through this narrow village street with typical balconies.  Continue through the village and out the other side and down a hill.  Shortly you come to a warehouse selling cane and garden furniture on your right, then turn right at the junction just after this.  It is signed 'Cami Cansalaes'. Do not follow the sign straight ahead to Jávea.

The road now has a number of bends.  Follow the arrows and stick to the main road.  As you come down a hill you can see the coastline development of Jávea.  You come to another new roundabout. You don't have to go round the roundabout, just turn right.  You come to an angled T junction with bollards in the road.  There is a Ferreteria (hardware shop) on the left.  Turn right here.  This road goes to the Cabo de la Nao (Cap del Nau).  Go along there for about 1 km.  You can't miss Toscamar, (on the left) its written all over it!  You see an estate agent first then the supermarket. There is a long white curving wall partially covered with ivy and you enter between two archways.

1. Shops    2. Wall of pool and tennis area    3. Approaching the arches    4. The Entrance

To the right of the entrance is Recepcion.   There you collect the door keys.  There is a barrier just past the office which is activated by the white plastic card which they will give you with the keys.  There is a post on the left of the barrier with an electronic eye.  You just wave the plastic in front of it!  Once through the barrier, turn right - you have to because it's a one way system. No 68 is the last but one house on the left just before the road turns left.

When going out remember it's a one way system, continue round the block to the left to get back to the entrance.  The left side barrier opens automatically when going out.
